Flipping the corner tells us a lot
The back of a rug shows whether it was machine made or hand made, and the label usually lists the fibre. Machine-made synthetic rugs tend to handle a full wet clean. Wool needs a softer touch. Viscose, silk and some jute rugs can stain, brown or shrink with water.
If your rug is one that is better sent away to a specialist washer, we will say so and leave it alone.
Protecting the floor underneath
Most rugs in the Hills District sit on timber, vinyl plank or tiles. We place protection under the edges where needed and keep moisture controlled so water does not sit on your floor.
You will get clear advice on keeping the rug off the floor or well aired while it dries.
What we do on the day
- Check fibre, backing and dye stability
- Vacuum both sides where the rug can be lifted
- Treat visible marks with a product suited to the fibre
- Clean the face of the rug and tidy the fringe
- Groom the pile so it dries in one direction
